The second annual McGraw Symposium, sponsored by The McGraw Center for Business Journalism at the CUNY J-School, will explore the continuing transformation of business journalism in the digital era. Top editors from the Wall Street Journal, Yahoo Finance, and Bloomberg News will discuss the challenges and opportunities they face in reshaping coverage amidst the rapid changes underway. We’ll look at the growth of mobile, the rise of distributed content -- and ask what they see coming up next on the horizon.

 

Traditional banking is getting a makeover in the digital age, one that could be fast-tracked as bold FinTech companies aim to further reinvent the business. Peer-to-peer lending platforms and technology companies that simplify personal banking are some of the businesses that are successfully chasing after segments of traditional banking industry. Some traditional banks, however, are finding opportunities in this new era. Reuters reporter Suzanne Barlyn will tackle these developments in a session with leaders from Citi Ventures, Peerform, and Simple.

Consumers are becoming price-sensitive and insurers are reacting with narrower plans to cut costs. Meanwhile the consumer continues to absorb higher drug prices.
